Transforming a 1950s chalet in Weybridge
A new home in Weybridge, Surrey after a number of years of successful extension and remodelling projects in Cleves Wood, Peter was approached to design a new home to replace the old 1950’s chalet.
Peter was very mindful of the sort after characteristics of cleves wood and set out to design a quality home with regard for its setting and spacious characteristics. The building incorporates traditional features such as steep gables, sash windows and clay tiles. To ensure the property blended with the prestigious characteristics of the neighbourhood he selected reclaimed handmade clay roofing tiles and traditional hand made bricks meticulously laid in the Flemish bond pattern. Peter has also incorporated a harmonising contrast of materials utilising high tech recycled zinc roofing and Crittall style orangery doors. Whilst the house blends in scale with the neighbouring properties there is a very impartial three storey atrium with a sweeping curved staircase running the full height and this is lit by a circular glass roof. The property also has a basement and characteristic rooms within the roof. Again Peter has incorporated a very large kitchen and garden room for both family enjoyment and unrivalled entertainment space for friends and guests.
Peter was retained to ensure all aspects of his vision were meticulously carried out and provided on-site consultancy and details for all aspects of the project until it was complete.
"Peter captured the very essence of what we were hoping to achieve - to design a new home that looked liked it had always been there. Throughout Peter was a pleasure to work with, very creative, very collaborative, an excellent listener and advisor. Peter was also superb with all trades, building control and local council members due to his years in the industry. His communication skills regarding complicated technical matters helped solve numerous issues during the build. We love the home that Peter has created for us and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him."
